Choosing the right email marketing software for your business can be a lengthy process. There’s so many things to take into consideration: How easy is it to use? How much does it cost? How many other companies are using it?
Along with all this, the number of platforms you can choose from these days is overwhelming. To make your life easier, below, we provide insights into the most popular systems of this year so far.
MailChimp is one of the most popular email marketing platforms out there with over 15 million users worldwide ranging from small e-commerce stores to big online retailers. The company estimates that their users are sending 1 billion emails every single day. That’s easily more than any other platform provider. MailChimp allows you to create and schedule emails, A/B test your subject lines or content and easily segment your lists.
Pro’s – The company pride themselves with responsive and knowledgeable customer service. Along with this, their interface is very straight forward to use, saving time in the long run.
Cons – The email templates they provide are very basic and difficult to change. There’s an option to create a new template using code. However, I doubt most of the 15 million users actually use this feature.
Rating – 4.5/5
Founded in 1998, this marketing platform has swiftly become one of the most used tools in recent years. With roughly 650,000 users around the globe, Constant Contact have dedicated themselves to helping small businesses and organizations build strong relationships with their customers. It promotes a simple and easy to use approach giving its users the opportunity to create masterpieces with little effort.
Pro’s – Their free trial period is 60 days compared to standard one month which the majority of other platforms offer. Having a long trial period, will give you a very good indication of how well you get on with the product before you commit to making a purchase.
Cons – For every 1000 emails you send, only 1 of them is allowed to come back with a “spam” complaint. This means that if you were to send an email blast and more than one comes back as spam, your account will be blocked.

With a community of over 2 million people from 200,000 businesses worldwide, Campaign Monitor have become a powerful email marketing and automation platform in their own right. They provides users with mobile tools and detailed reports to easily track the success of campaigns, whether you’re in the office or on-the-go. The platform also allows you to test and optimize every campaign, giving you the best out of your emails and your customers something they’re going to engage with.
Pro’s – The software overall is very user-friendly. The reporting is very in-depth and provides you with useful insights for future campaigns you may launch.
Cons – Designing and editing email templates can be very time consuming and not so straight forward. The tool has limited customization capabilities, particularly when you want to import templates.
Rating – 3.5/5
Just over 10 years old, Hubspot has become a well-known platform with over 30,000 customers worldwide in 90 different countries. Similar to other email marketing systems, you’re able to create emails through either HTML code or by selecting a preset template. A great feature is the “trigger emails” – an automated email sent out based on page views, social media mentions and other activities by users. These types of emails have proven to generate some of the highest email conversions in recent years. If you like to plan ahead of time, you’re also able to schedule emails up to one year in advance and set preferred time intervals in between distributions.
Pro’s – It’s easy to use and very intuitive. The Hubspot blog provides users with a wealth of information not only about email, but also about the online/digital marketing space.
Cons – This platform requires you to agree to a 12-month contract and there’s no free trial. Along with this, as you’re building your contact lists, the price increases with it.
Rating – 3/5
After going live 16 years ago, Vertical Response has accumulated over 1 million users (roughly 600,000 businesses/offices using the platform) across the globe. This platform provides you with a variety of easy to use templates, allowing you to create beautiful and responsive designs depending on message and/or device. Its easy interface gives first time users assurance they’ll be able to get the job done with very little help.
Pro’s – They provide a great free unlimited option where you’re able to send up to 4,000 emails per month to 300 contacts. This is considerably more than many other platforms free options.
Cons – Many clients using the platform have found a low open rate because the emails go unseen in the junk/spam folder. Even after changing settings, the problem persists.
